Axelle Despiegelaere just had her 15 minutes of fame while cheering during a World Cup match in Brazil – cameras at the game zoomed in on her, fans began calling the 17-year-old a ‘Belgian beauty’ and even created a Facebook Fan page that quickly attracted almost 300,000 likes.

The folks at L’Oreal were paying attention. It’s been rumored that Despiegelaere was offered a modeling contract – but sources say it was quickly cancelled.

Why? Despiegelaere posted a photo of herself on Facebook hunting wild game in Africa, with the caption: “Hunting is not a matter of life or death. It’s much more important than that…this was about 1 year ago…ready to hunt Americans today haha.” (This was the day Belgium was to play the U.S. for the World Cup.)

News of how the teen scored the modeling gig – and lost it – have been all over the Internet. The Daily Mail’s online story featured the headline, “She’s Not Worth It!.”

However, Buzzfeed reported that a L’Oreal rep sent a statement saying:

“Axelle de Spiegelaere is not one of L’Oréal Professionnel’s spokespeople. L’Oréal Professionnel Belgium collaborated with her on an ad hoc basis to produce a video for social media use in Belgium. This has now been produced.”

Despiegelaere has since deleted her Facebook page.
